Learning to write a friendly letter
About friendly letters...add more here.
Heading
Your heading will be aligned on the right side of the paper. On the first line you will write your street address. The second line will be your city, state, and zipcode. The last line of the heading will be today's date.
Salutation
You will skip two lines and your salutation will be left aligned. This tells the reader who is it adressed to, and will usually say "Dear ________," or "Hi _______," The blank is where you write the person's name, and there is a comma at the end of of the salutation.
Body
You will skip one line after the salutation. The body is the where you write your thoughts and ideas that you want to share. This should be single spaced, and indent for each new paragraph. Each paragraph should be 3-6 sentences to make it easy for the reader to read.
Closing
The closing lets your reader know that the letter is ending. You will skip one line and align it on the right side. This usually says "Sincerely," "Thank you," "Your friend," or more. There is a comma at the the end of the closing.
Signature
You will sign your name under the closing. For friendly letters, you can usually just sign your first name, unless the person doesn't know you very well.

Practice
You will follow this link, review the steps of a friendly letter, and then practice writing a letter to me. In your first body paragraph you will tell me what you have learned in this unit. In the second body paragraph you will tell me what you are excited about with the pen pals, and what you hope to learn from them. In the third body paragraph you will tell me how you might use what we have learned in this unit in your future or outside of school. You will then print it out and turn it in.
